A news report I'd like to read:

Hawaii shifting economy from tourism to serving retirees

Governor declares Hawaii's intention to thrive through service to retirees. "Hawaii, like Florida, is the perfect retirement community; it's an appropriate reward for seniors who have dutifully served their communities and families. Retirees to Hawaii bring with them a steady source of pension income, for housing, food, and the hundreds of services they require; therefore, they provide job opportunities for the most honorable profession, service to others.  Acknowledgment of elders is the ultimate expression of aloha."

Quotes a spokesperson for the Governor, "I can envision a future in which costs for transporting fuel, food, and tourists to and from Hawaii will be prohibitively expensive." Now is the time to start planning for a shift, from depending upon tourism, to an economy that attracts and serves retirees, one that also supports self-sustaining agriculture. The tourism industry will continue to prosper, mainly from relatives nationwide visiting their grandparents.
