Today (11/16/16) HPR-1 & 2 started a "Celebration Fund Drive." Something doesn't feel good about this extra funds drive so soon after the supposedly successful annual drive in October.
If I had my druthers I'd lower the salary of HPR's president and general manager, José A. Fajardo, to that of those committed to true service such as a high school principal. As it is the General Manager of HPR is making more money per year ($166,748.00 plus benefits) than most of the listeners.
Most of today's "non-profits" are started by those who couldn't start/maintain a salaried job so they started a "worthy" non-profit and draw high salaries from donors. Profiting from a "nonprofit" is oxymoronic. I'd feel better if no one in a supposedly nonprofit received any more than a high school principal's salary.
Our 501(c)(3) non-profit has been ad-free and donations only (no one gets paid) for 20+ years so, I know it's possible for HPR to do the same.
