Legislators and spouses to pledge fidelity
« on: December 18, 2010, 03:35:59 AM »
A news release I'd like to see

Legislators and their spouses to pledge fidelity.

A respected Senator from Hawaii has proposed a bill in support of the collective integrity of our country's leaders. All members of the House and Senate, and their spouses, will be required to pledge spousal fidelity. Any violation means instant automatic removal from office. Any legislator or staff member who knows of cheating and fails to confront the cheater and ask him/her to stop or to remove him/herself from office will also be forced to resign. This places equal responsibility on both the enabler and the person thinking of having an affair with a legislator; no one will be able to say they didn't know the consequences, to the legislator or the nation.

Says the Senator, it's extremely invalidating to know that I don't inspire honesty; we have a responsibility to lead by example. We can no longer afford to ignore the risk of the consequences of deceit, of cheating, nor can we continue to non-verbally condone such unethical behaviors.  Given a choice, all other qualifications being equal, few would choose a brain surgeon who is cheating on his/her spouse; why then should we risk the karmic possibilities (however real or remote) of undesirable consequences for dishonesty among our country's leaders?

What can you do? You can ask a legislator if they have read this Legislators and Spouses Fidelity Pledge post?

Comments/edits/suggestions welcome.

Supportive readings:
Some examples:

The present policy forces Secret Service Agents, those who guard the President, to compromise their integrity, as they did when they not only knew about, but enabled and empowered Presidents Kennedy and Clinton to cheat on their spouses. When someone carries around such a perpetration into each and every action/interaction there are undesirable consequences; for certain an agent's mind is partially clouded (occupied) and not as sharp and aware as when they are operating from integrity. For example: The President and Hillary not only arrogantly violated the people's trust they both insulted and compromised the integrity of the Secret Service; to my knowledge, neither of the Clintons have acknowledged to each Secret Service member their perpetrations and the effects they know it had on each Secret Service Agent and his/her family. Neither have I heard nor read of a Secret Service Agent acknowledging his/her complicity in the deceits.

Senators T. Kennedy (MA), Brooke (MA), Craig (ID), Edwards (NC), Ensign (NV), Vitter (LA), McCain (AZ), Stanley (TN), Baucus (MT), Hart (CO), Packwood (OR), Miller (OH) and their spouses, revealed their ignorance of personal integrity as one of six communication variables affecting all outcomes and goals.

David Petraeus, former Director of the CIA, was cheating on his wife both as the Director of the CIA and earlier as a four-star general commanding U.S. Forces in Afghanistan. Read Military Academy Scandals.

Note: One barrier to communication is the absence of respect. Couples who have respect issues have more communication breakdowns. That's not to say a Secret Service Agent would consciously not protect the President to his/her fullest ability but, being human, they too are driven by unconscious thoughts and withholds. It's a given that Secret Service Agents are not in open and honest communication with the President and so each carries around hundreds of incompletes (thoughts, judgments, acknowledgments, stuffed upsets—all delivered non-verbally and psychically).
